LA COMBALLAZ

La Pierre du Moëllé is the starting point for two panoramic excursions, the first of which will take you to the summit of Mont-d'Or, at an altitude of 2,175 metres, with a splendid view of the Vaud Pre-Alps and the Alps. The Diablerets, Muveran, Dents du Midi and Leysin can all be admired from the summit. The second excursion is a 2-hour walk with a 460-metre ascent through the lapiés de Famelon, a veritable labyrinth of limestone rocks. These rocks are sculpted by dissolution, a chemical process that alters the rock when it comes into contact with water, offering hikers a view of almost lunar landscapes.

As well as being great places to hike, the Famelon lapiés are also perfect for rock climbing. There are several sectors where families, children and beginners can tackle routes of varying difficulty. La Pierre du Moëllé is accessible by public transport with the Postbus, getting off at the Poste stop.
